Handling Lab Specimens – Lab specimens are handled in a manner that provides for safety of the staff member from contaminants of blood or body fluids.

Handling of Medical Waste – Medical waste and lab specimens are handled in a way that protects the staff member and others from exposure to contaminants by being disposed of properly.

Infection Control Supplies & Personal Protective Equipment – THA Group provides materials essential for personal protection from and control of infection at no cost to staff.  Employees are required to use the provided equipment and supplies for infection control and personal protection.

Infection Control Surveillance and Management Program – THA Group collects and analyzes data related to infections to protect staff, patients and the community, to improve patient care practices, and to comply with state and federal regulations.

Influx of Infectious Patients Response Plan – Outlines a comprehensive company response plan for an influx of infectious patients during such events that may involve SARS, Swine Flu (H1N1), Avian Flu (H5N1), Bioterrorism infectious agents or other highly contagious infections.

Investigating Outbreaks of Infection – Suspected outbreaks of infection among patients/clients are investigated in order to promptly contain the spread of the infection.

Isolation Precautions – Universal blood and body fluid precautions (also known as standard precautions) are the standard of practice used by all health care workers.  No order is required for universal precautions; however, special precautions are needed in order to reduce the risk of transmission from diseases spread by other means.

Universal Precautions & Infection Control – THA Group accepts appropriate referrals of patients with infectious diseases.  All patients referred for admission are cared for by staff utilizing standard (universal) precautions, in order to minimize their risk of exposure to blood and body fluids.  All patient blood and body fluids are presumed infectious and by strictly adhering to these infection control precautions staff exposure to fluids can be avoided.

Medication Management

Comfort Kit (Hospice) – Hospice patients are proactively managed for pain and other deleterious symptoms effectively and expeditiously during times of physical crisis through the use of the Hospice Patient Comfort Kit.

Infusion Therapy – THA Group adheres to policies and procedures outlined by the Infusion Nurses Society to insure the safe treatment of patients.

Management and Disposal of Controlled Substances – It is the policy of THA Group to manage all Controlled Substances and offer assistance for disposal of them properly when there is a change in prescription or because of death.

Medication Management – THA Group’s medication management processes consist of those functions necessary to facilitate the patient’s safe use of medications in the home.

Miscellaneous

Pain Screening and Assessment – Patients and clients of THA Group have the right to have their pain assessed and addressed with every contact. Our goal is to work with all members of the health care team to achieve best possible pain control.

Therapy and Nursing Partnership Agreement for Improved Coordination of Care – This policy establishes disease-specific practice and documentation guidelines for THA Group therapists with the goal of reducing cost of care/hospital readmissions and to improve coordination of care.

Lippincott’s Nursing Procedures – Lippincott’s Nursing Procedures Manual will be used by THA Group as the official resource manual in conjunction with other clinical based policies to provide clinical education in the most efficient and effective way possible.
