Compassionate End-of-Life Care
“Don’t count the days, make the days count.”

THA Group’s Island Hospice helps clients with a life-limiting illness and their families cope with life’s final journey. We provide clinical care, comfort and support, allowing families to focus on being together. As part of THA Group’s philosophy of giving back to the community, Island Hospice was formed as a 501(c)3 non profit company – “owned” by the community and locally managed.
Principles of Hospice
- Hospice care specializes in preventing and alleviating pain and other symptoms.
- Hospice integrates the psychological and spiritual aspects of client care.

THA Group’s Island Hospice understands that a life-limiting illness affects the entire family. Licensed medical social workers, spiritual counselors and specially trained nurses work not just with a client, but also with his or her caregivers and loved ones to provide comfort and care to the family unit. Having a healthy support system is critical to a client’s well-being.
Our care doesn’t end when a client passes away. THA Group’s Island Hospice remains actively involved with bereaved caregivers and family to ensure they receive necessary emotional and educational support. Our counselors visit with bereaved caregivers and families in person and are available by phone. We provide additional resources such as bereavement support groups and mailings to help caregivers and families through the grieving process.
Arranging for Hospice Care
A client should discuss diagnosis and treatment options with his/her family and physician. If the client has a life-limiting illness and is no longer seeking curative or life-prolonging treatment, hospice care may be appropriate and helpful in providing comfort and support. The client’s physician can refer to THA Group’s Island Hospice to begin hospice services or the client can contact the hospice staff directly. You can also call 1.888.842.4663 to consult with an Island Hospice professional.
Qualifying for Hospice Care
Typically, hospice care begins once a person’s life expectancy is six months or less. However, a client can receive care as long as he/she qualifies for hospice services. To qualify for Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance coverage for hospice care, the client’s physician must certify that the client has a life-limiting illness with a life expectancy of six months or less if the illness is allowed to run its natural course, and the client is no longer seeking curative or aggressive treatment for the life-limiting illness.
Covering the Cost for Hospice Care
Hospice is paid for through Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurers. If a client does not have coverage through Medicare, Medicaid or a private insurance company, THA Group’s Island Hospice will work with the client and their family to make sure needed services are provided.
Island Hospice is an approved provider for Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance. Self pay is also accepted for services. Please call us at 1.888.842.4663 to confirm that Island Hospice is in your insurance provider’s network.
